Clinical Outcomes & Excellence
Baystate Medical Center has received Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) four consecutive times, placing it among leaders nationally in nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes.
Beacon Award - Silver
For the second time in a row, Baystate Medical Center's Heart & Vascular Critical Care (HVCC) and Progressive Care Units (PCU) were recognized by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses with the silver Beacon Award for Excellence. The award honors individual units that distinguish themselves by improving every facet of patient care and serve as role models to others on their journey to excellent patient and family care.
This is the eighth time Baystate Medical Center's Medical & Surgical ICU has won this national award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the third time in a row. Recognized units must also meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

Baystate Health was recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for promoting enrollment in the state eye, tissue, and organ donor registry.
Get With The Guidelines
The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association recognized Baystate Medical Center for its continued success with the Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus with Honor Roll Elite Plus Award, the highest level award for care of stroke patients. To receive a Gold Plus Award, hospitals must meet 5 of 8 quality measures at least 75% of the time over 24-months.
Baystate Wing Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital's commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
Mission Lifeline Trailblazer Award
The American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline Trailblazer Award is presented for implementing specific quality improvement measures at a regional level as outlined by the Association for treating patients who suffer severe heart attacks.
Mission Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center - Silver Plus
The American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline STEMI Accreditation denotes the highest level of commitment to consistent and optimal STEMI care at the system level.
Society of Thoracic Surgeons Three-Star Rating
Baystate Health's Cardiac Surgery Program has earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in aortic valve replacement (AVR), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and mitral valve replacement and repair (MVRR) surgery. The three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places Baystate Health among the elite for AVR, CABG & MVRR surgery in the United States and Canada.
Age-Friendly Health Systems

Becker's Orthopedic Award
Baystate Medical Center was recognized by Becker's Healthcare, as one of the first hospitals in Massachusetts to use a computer-assisted navigation system to improve surgical performance during total joint replacement surgery.
Nurse Residency Accreditation
The Baystate Health Nurse Residency Program was accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation, one of only two in the state of Massachusetts.
American College of Nurse-Midwives Awards
Baystate Midwifery & Women's Health received two awards from the American College of Nurse-Midwives for best practices in reducing the proportion is preterm, low-birth-weight infants, and achieving the triple aim of better care, healthier populations, and lower costs.
CHIME Most Wired Award
For the seventh time in eight years, Baystate Health was recognized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and Modern Healthcare, which assesses how healthcare organizations apply core and advanced technologies into their clinical and business programs to improve health and care in their communities.

Health New England was named one of the 2019 finalists of the Healthiest Employers of Massachusetts award, a nationally recognized awards program powered by the Springbuk Health Intelligence Platform. This award recognizes Health New England's outstanding commitment to employee health and exceptional corporate health programming.
The Forbes Best Employer by State
Forbes has named Baystate Health the 37th best employer in Massachusetts. The surveys determine the organizations liked best by their own employees. Surveys were done from October 2019 to May 2020. Responses were compared throughout that time, to account for any variations in the results collected before and after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
