Weight Management Support Services

To get started, call 413-794-7020 to register for our free educational seminar.

If you are interested in learning more about our weight loss program or are ready to begin, your first step is to attend our educational seminar.

When you call, you will be asked for your height and weight to verify that your BMI (body mass index) meets the basic criteria for weight loss. Calculate your BMI. This 2-hour group seminar is your first step and takes place on the main campus of BMC, 759 Chestnut St, Springfield, MA 01199 in the Wesson Building, Lundy Board Room. The seminar is designed to help you make an informed decision about our weight loss program. The seminar lasts about 2 hours, and there is time at the end of the session for our experts to answer your questions.

Surgical Program Next Steps

Nutritional Component

After you attend the seminar you will be asked to book an appointment with a nutritionist. During this appointment, you will meet with the registered dietitian to begin learning the nutrition, eating behaviors, lifestyle and exercise habits required of every weight loss surgery patient. This is a 1 hour appointment. This will be followed by an additional 30 minute medically supervised nutrition counseling appointment to prepare for weight loss surgery and meet your insurance requirements.

Behavioral Component

After meeting with the nutritionist, you will meet with one of our psychologists to discuss ways your mental health may be affecting your eating habits. The psychologist will help you identify your strengths that can help you achieve and maintain your weight loss goals. This is a 1 to 2 hour appointment.

After you have completed these initial appointments and while you are awaiting approval from your insurance company, you will begin attending surgical support groups, complete any necessary lab work, undergo a medical evaluation by a board certified bariatrician and meet with additional medical professionals as necessary.
