MLK Semester of Service Award-winning Project: MLK Family Services Food Justice Fair

WOW Bus at MLK Food Justice Fair

MLK Jr Family Services Food Justice Fair was held today in conjunction with the emergency food pantry at the Martin Luther King Jr Family Services Community Center.

The Food Justice Fair, headed up by medical student Emily Gang, PURCH Class of 2024, was one of two winners of Baystate Health's 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Semester of Service Award.

Medical students in the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health track and other health professions students staffed stations that included heart health, diabetes and blood pressure screening and education, nutrition and cooking demonstrations, case management and advocacy, CPR, Stop the Bleed, health care proxies, wellness and exercise, and smoking cessation.

This project builds upon previous MLK Semester of Service projects held at this organization in 2019 and 2020.
