Nurse ensures a patient's "special delivery" to her daughter's baby shower

April 22, 2016

Amanda Hill RN (left in photo), a nurse on Wesson 4 at Baystate Medical Center, had become quite familiar with Kathryn Marino (seated in photo), a patient who was being cared for on her unit for over a month.

Marino is the mother of one of our Baystate Medical Center physicians, Kathryn Jobbins, DO (right in photo), who is expecting a baby. Some of her colleagues had planned a baby shower for her at the hospital, and Hill arranged to come in on her day off so that she could accompany Marino to her daughter’s baby shower to ensure she remained safe and did not miss out on the event.

The patient's family expressed how much that extra effort on behalf of Hill meant to the patient and her family, and said it gave her a nice change of scenery, as she has been admitted for such an extended amount of time.

“This story speaks volumes to the individualized care and commitment our nurses give to our patients,” said Ashley Gagne RN, assistant nurse manager, Wesson 4.
