ME-449 Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Elective

Goals
This elective provides a custom designed experience in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation based on the interests of the individual student. Students can elect for a broad exposure to the field, or concentrate in a specific area including outpatient, acute inpatient, subacute inpatient, trauma, and electromyography testing. This elective is recommended for students contemplating a career in physical medicine and Rehabilitation as well as those anticipating a career in primary care.
Objectives
The student will...
- strengthen neurological and musculoskeletal history and examination skills.
- examine patients, write notes and orders under the supervision of an attending.
- perform initial consults and follow-up in conjunction with an attending physician.
- develop an appreciation for the role that physical medicine and rehabilitation plays in the comprehensive management of disabled patients.
- be encouraged to give a brief (15 minute) presentation on a topic of interest.
