Emergency Medicine Elective

Note: Once registered, this rotation may not be dropped.

Goals

Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Medicine faculty and senior residents, students will develop their ability to rapidly evaluate patients and plan the management of a wide spectrum of medical, surgical, pediatric, and psychiatric problems.

Objectives

The student will...

  • Gain experience performing procedures, including minor surgery, in the emergency department
  • Improve clinical skills and ability to present in a focused fashion and develop the skill of EM differential diagnosis.
  • Become exposed to emergency medicine through direct patient contact with active EM patients and understand the impact of the ED on outpatient and impatient care
  • Attend EM conferences, student lectures, ultrasound, EKG and procedure workshops along with simulated lab.

Prerequisite: May - November Blocks reserved ONLY for students pursuing EM residency. Successful completion of Medicine and Surgery Clerkships.
