Baystate Medical Center’s (BMC) Inpatient Palliative Care’s interdisciplinary team provides specialized care services to patients living with serious or life-threatening illnesses. Patients admitted to BMC can receive palliative care services for conditions related or unrelated to their hospital admission.
Palliative care is a medical specialty that focuses on addressing symptoms of serious illness, reducing stress, and improving quality of life for patients. Using a holistic approach, palliative care practitioners support patients and their loved ones through making complex medical decisions and ensure that treatment plans align with the patient’s goals and values.
Our expert team collaborates with the patient’s existing medical team. Palliative care is provided alongside curative, life prolonging, and symptom focused treatments and can be appropriate at any age and stage of illness, making it distinct from hospice care.
