Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinical Experience

Clinical Experience

The Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Fellowship at UMass Chan Baystate offers a comprehensive curriculum in perinatal medicine through structured inpatient and outpatient rotations. As a major tertiary referral center, fellows will have an intensive and varied clinical experience in high-volume clinical settings with patients of diverse backgrounds and pathology. These diverse experiences allow each fellow to develop expertise in advanced obstetric diagnostics and therapeutics. Fellows will be able to develop competency in detailed anatomy imaging, first trimester detailed anatomy, fetal Doppler studies, and fetal echocardiography. MFM fellows will also gain experience in fetal procedures and counseling for the maternal and fetal patient, including chorionic villi sampling (CVS), percutaneous umbilical cord sampling (PUBS) and amniocentesis. Fellows will also be able to practice full-scope care for patients, including clinical education in palliate care counseling, pregnancy counseling options, advanced surgical termination, selective and multifetal reduction, and fetal intracardiac injection.
