Before a patient is wheeled into an operating or patient room, Baystate team members like Environmental Services lead Evelyn Rosario have been hard at work preparing and sanitizing the area. Many people receiving care in the hospital have weakened immune systems or other health conditions, making infection control and cleanliness a top priority.

Each day, Evelyn, who has worked at Baystate for four years, takes the highest care in cleaning patient rooms, operating areas, hallways, and medical equipment to reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses. “I'm proud of the high standards I bring to my work,” she says. “Hospital cleaning isn't just tidying. It's precise, detailed, and essential. I take pride in doing the job correctly.”

Proper housekeeping also prevents accidents such as slips and falls. A clean, organized space creates a more comfortable environment for patients and families, helping them feel safer and more at ease during what may be a stressful time.

Evelyn’s work in Environmental Services supports the overall flow of the hospital as well. Once a patient is discharged, the team has efficient systems in place to quickly and thoroughly clean and sanitize areas to prepare for the next patient, helping to ensure the timely delivery of care.

Evelyn, who has lived in our community for close to 50 years, knows that on any given day, she might be helping to care for neighbors or friends. She takes pride in knowing she serves a vital role in their health and healing.

“What I like most about my job is the impact I have on people's lives,” Evelyn says. “Healthcare gives you the chance to help someone on their hardest days. I find meaning knowing my work helps improve someone's health, comfort, and quality of life.”
