As a gynecologic oncologist in Women’s Health at Baystate, Dr. Tashanna Myers specializes in treating the complex needs of patients who have uterine, cervical, or ovarian cancer, right here where they work and live.

“My patients are a constant reminder of the wealth of strength we have innately as women,” she says. “I feel an incredible sense of duty to the women of western Massachusetts; that they have access to the best possible care, without having to travel.”

What patients experience at a medical appointment is, in reality, the result of countless thoughtful decisions made long before they walk through the door. From the moment a referral is received, the care team begins preparing, coordinating labs and imaging, planning the visit, and ensuring the right information is ready at the right time.

“Once a patient is referred, our team begins to take ownership of their care,” Dr. Myers shares. “This pre-visit navigation allows us to prepare patients, streamline care, and make the most of every moment together.” For patients facing cancer, time carries weight far beyond the schedule. An avoided delay means less time away from work and life commitments, prompt answers, and a shift from ‘hurry up and wait’ to moving forward with a personalized care plan.

“Fundamentally, I believe my purpose is to care for women with cancer,” she says. “And when you feel there is a higher purpose for what you do, it brings a different level of energy.” When a patient sends her a birthday card each year to celebrate the patient’s own birthday and another year of life, or a woman she’s cared for shares a photo of her enjoying life with her loved ones, Dr. Myers knows: “This is what I’m supposed to do,” she says. “I’m supposed to be right here, caring for women in this place that I also call home. This is bigger than me.”
