Minh Anh Dang
William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hi everyone! My name is Minh Anh Dang. I grew up in Da Nang, a beautiful beach city in Vietnam. I attended the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and earned my medical degree from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Mississippi. My husband and I couple matched at Baystate, so I am continuing my streak of living in states that start with the letter “M”.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy cooking traditional Vietnamese dishes, traveling (I recently completed a two-month trip to Vietnam), and collecting Starbucks Discovery mini mugs.
During my fourth year of medical school, I completed an away rotation at Baystate and was immediately impressed by the welcoming and supportive culture among both residents and faculty. I am thrilled to join this amazing program and look forward to learning, growing, and contributing over the next three years.

Jacob Heath
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hey all! My name is Jacob Heath and I am a born and raised small town Oklahoman. While that may sound like I am country, I am a city-boy at heart. I attended The University of Oklahoma of undergrad and Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. Some in Oklahoma would call that a house divided.
I have a wide range of interests outside of medicine and can usually find enjoyment in almost any activity, even if I am not very good at it. Movies are one of my biggest passions and love to post my reviews to Letterboxd. I also love to hike, play sand volleyball, go on long walks, and read (Currently reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series).
I chose to do my residency at Baystate Medical Center because of how welcome I felt during my interview. The residents and attendings are kind, while also emphasizing the challenge that these next few years will be. While it will be difficult, they emphasized that knowledge and confidence do not have to come at the expense of our mental health and wellness. THAT was huge for me in my decision making. I am very excited to start and begin this next step in my medical career.
Habibatu Ighile
University of Minnesota Medical School
Hello everyone! My name is Habibatu Ighile, and I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I attended Stony Brook University for my undergraduate studies and, after taking a gap year, moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for medical school. During my gap year, I worked with the Center for Excellence in Youth Education at Mount Sinai, where I had the opportunity to teach underrepresented NYC youth about the science of the human body and mentor students as they explored their research interests in STEM. That experience was incredibly meaningful to me, and I’m very passionate about inspiring and supporting the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals. I look forward to continuing that passion throughout residency.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading, painting, going on long walks, roller skating, lifting weights, and playing volleyball. I also love trying new recipes for meal prepping or baking and sharing them with family and friends. I’m always excited to learn new things—whether that’s languages or different cultures—and I hope to travel the world someday. Currently, I’m studying Korean and hope to become fluent with consistent practice! Spending time with my family and friends is very important to me, so I’m especially happy to be much closer to them again.
When I interviewed at Baystate, I really appreciated how easy it was to connect with everyone I met. The team was incredibly warm and personable, and I truly felt welcomed. I’m so excited to be joining the Baystate Family!
Kumael Jafri
Albany Medical College
Hey everyone! I’m Kumael Jafri. I was born in Nashua, NH, spent a few years in Seattle, WA and eventually made my way back to New England, where I lived in Holliston, MA. I completed my undergrad at Northeastern University and became a huge Celtics fan along the way. For medical school, I headed back west (although not quite as far as last time) to Albany Medical College in Upstate NY.
Outside of medicine, most of my hobbies revolve around the outdoors. Although my parents grew up in Pakistan, I somehow developed a love for the cold weather. I enjoy exploring snow-capped mountains, alpine lakes, and the sublime beauty of the natural world. I also enjoy gardening, whether it’s seeing what can survive a New England winter or propagating plants indoors. When I’m not outside, you can usually find me catching a movie with friends, grinding away at a new video game, or trying to recreate some of my mom’s signature Punjabi dishes with my own twist.
I’m thrilled to be back in MA for residency, where I can serve the Springfield community and learn from the outstanding teachers at Baystate. I’m excited to meet everyone and see where this journey takes us!
Eeshan Kumar

Hello! My name is Eeshan Kumar. I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania- go Steelers! I grew up in Dallas, Texas. I then left the south to do my undergrad at Union College in Schenectady, New York and received my MBA from Clarkson University. Michael Leyderman
State University of New York Update Medical University
Hi everyone! My name is Michael Leyderman! Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I'm proud to be the first doctor in my family. I completed my undergraduate studies at Hunter College before earning my medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
Outside of medicine, you'll likely find me hiking trails, jogging, or watching plenty of movies and shows. I love exploring new places, whether that's a local restaurant or a destination abroad. In the spirit of becoming a real New Englander, I’m also learning how to golf.
I chose Baystate because of the people. From my first look to interview day, the warmth and genuine support I felt from everyone made the decision easy. The expansive health network and the strength of the medical center sealed it. I'm most looking forward to working alongside this incredible team and making a lasting impact on the patients we serve.
Joshua Qu
University of Nebraska College of Medicine
Hi! I'm Josh from Lincoln, NE. I went to the University of Michigan for undergrad, spent a couple years in Chicago during COVID, and then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for medical school. I've basically lived in the Midwest my whole life, and Nebraska happens to be the most landlocked state in the country, and I am over the wildly variable weather (80°F one day, snowing three days later). I'm very much looking forward to some semblance of stability at Baystate!
I adopted a puppy the day I started studying for Step 2, so I now spend a lot of time at the dog park sweating or shivering while she runs around. Outside of that, I enjoy a bubbly brunch with friends, rogue-like video games, and watching shows on Hulu with my girlfriend. What struck me most about Baystate during my interview was the genuine warmth and camaraderie I felt from everyone I met, and that's exactly the kind of environment I've been looking for in a residency program.
Julianna Quinones
Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine
Hi! My name is Julianna Quiñones Arill, and I am from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I attended the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and stayed on the island for medical school at Universidad Central del Caribe. I’m truly excited to join this community and to continue learning, growing, and becoming the physician I hope to be!
Maia Valls Palacios Reese
Pounce Health Sciences University School of Medicine
Hello! My name is Maia Valls, I was born in Venezuela and moved to the United States when I was 15. I completed my undergraduate studies at St. Thomas University, where I seriously considered pursuing a PhD. I still love research and the curiosity that comes with asking questions and trying to understand how things work. But along the way, I realized something was missing for me: human connection, and the ability to work closely with others toward a shared goal. Also, I quickly learned that I talk way too much to spend my days quietly behind a microscope. Medicine felt like the right home for me because it brings together curiosity, teamwork, and meaningful patient connection. I went on to attend Ponce Health Sciences University in Puerto Rico for medical school.
Outside of medicine, music is my go-to reset after a long day. I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy reading, especially fantasy rom-coms, watching movies, and I’ve recently discovered K-dramas!
I chose Baystate Medical Center for residency because, during interview day, I could genuinely feel the warmth and genuineness of the team. The residents, attendings, and medical education staff created an environment that felt supportive and welcoming. My second look completely confirmed that feeling and made the decision incredibly easy. I am truly grateful to be part of such a special community, and I am excited to grow both professionally and personally while giving back.
Jasmine Vazquez
Albany Medical College
Hi! everyone! My name is Jasmine, and I’m from Braintree, MA. I completed my undergraduate studies at UConn (Go Huskies!!) and went on to attend Albany Medical College for medical school.
Outside of medicine, one of my biggest passions is cooking. I love trying new recipes and exploring different cuisines. I’m also a big fan of hosting dinner parties and planning themed events, which means I’m always looking for an excuse to bring people together over good food. When I’m not in the kitchen, you can usually find me reading, thrifting, or watching the latest season of Survivor.
During my interview at Baystate, it immediately felt like home. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, and I knew right away that I would feel valued and supported throughout my training. The cherry on top was the program’s strong commitment to serving the community, which is something I see as an important part of my career as a physician.
I’m so excited and honored to be joining the Baystate family, and I’m really looking forward to the years ahead!
Krista Davy

Outside of medicine, I love reading, exploring new places, spending time with my family, and planning trips with my friends. I’m also a proud cat owner and enjoy finding cozy places to unwind with a good book. One of the things that drew me to Baystate was the welcoming culture and strong sense of community among the residents and faculty.

I chose Baystate because of its welcoming staff, community-oriented culture, and their rare "Food as Medicine" initiative!
In my free time, I enjoy reading (rebuilding my 250-week kindle reading streak one day at a time), writing (currently working on a novel) and singing. Looking forward most to hosting a karaoke night with my Baystate Family!

Srishty Agarwal, MD
Government Medical College Surat
Hi there! I’m Srishty Agarwal, born and raised in the diamond city—Surat, western part of India. I’m a certified binge-watcher (Modern Family has my whole heart!), and when I'm not glued to a screen, you’ll probably find me immersed in dancing or mandala painting (it's like doodling with a purpose—circles, patterns, and the right dose of Zen). Long walks on the beach with endless chit-chat? Count me in! That being said, I'm also excited to check out the hiking trails around Massachusetts.
During my interview at Baystate, I felt an instant sense of warmth, as if I were meeting long-lost family. The residents radiated such genuine camaraderie that it felt like slipping into a place I truly belong.

Patrick Chang, MD
Drexel University College of Medicine
Hey, I’m Patrick! I grew up in LA then moved to Philly for college and med school, both at Drexel University. During my academic career, I established a research background in neuroscience and oncology, and I worked part-time as a project manager of a spinal implant company.

My staples are cooking and custom artwork (in whatever medium I’m feeling that day). With the Baystate family was where I best envisioned the fruition of my ideal physician character. It is my valued privilege to collaborate with faculty and providers that I respect and relate to. From the people to the institution, Baystate is my perfect mise-en-scène to materialize my career ventures my way.

I can be found rock climbing, figure skating, or skiing in my free time because they make me feel like I’m flying, but I also love hiking, biking, running, and painting for the kind of mental stillness that only repetitive movement offers me. I greatly enjoy hiking locally and in the White Mountains of NH, camping, swimming in lakes, and playing the piano. We’re thrilled to be visiting family in Japan and China this month whom I haven’t seen in many years. I’m very excited to meet you all and am looking forward to experiencing the next several years together.

Cristian Garcia-Bardina, MD
Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine
Hey everyone! I'm Cristian García-Bardina, from Ponce, Puerto Rico. Having lived on an island it’s only fair that I prefer warm weather and outdoor activities like tennis, fútbol or beach volleyball. Other that the outdoors, you'll often find me experimenting in the kitchen or having epic board game battles with my girlfriend.
Now, let's talk about my not-so-secret obsession: coffee. I have a borderline unhealthy fixation with crafting the perfect espresso. From grinding the beans to achieving that velvety crema, it's a ritual that brings me peace and joy.
As for my upcoming adventure, I couldn't be more excited about moving to New England and beginning my training at Baystate. The decision was an easy one, thanks to the warm and welcoming environment I experienced during my interview.
So, here's to new beginnings and endless cups of espresso. I can't wait to see what the future holds!

David Jimenez, MD
Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University
Hello, my name is David Jimenez. I am originally from New Jersey, where I grew up and went to college at Rutgers University. After graduating from there, I moved to Philly to attend medical school at Temple University! At home, I take care of a cute tuxedo cat named “Pepper”. I am an avid traveler and spend my vacations scuba diving and visiting national parks. I have a passion for teaching as well, and I have been an active tutor for children since college. I am looking forward to settling into Western Mass and starting as an intern at Baystate!

Anisha Karim, DO
Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hey everyone! My name is Anisha Karim, and I’m from Winchester, MA.
I love to dance and have been dancing Kathak (an Indian classical dance) since I was eight. I’m excited to drop in/teach classes at my local dance studio now that I'm back home. I love hanging out with friends and family (especially my adorable little niece and nephew!) and eating yummy food. I’ve started reading again and eventually want to re-read the Harry Potter series. Fun fact--I fostered cats during medical school and would love to have a pet of my own soon.
While I moved to the Midwest for medical school, I’m still a New England girl at heart and am happy to come home and train at Baystate! Everyone I met during my away rotations was incredibly kind and supportive. I love the energy at Baystate, and I can’t wait to start residency here!

Ian McCarthy, DO
Lincoln Memorial University- DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hello everyone! My name is Ian McCarthy and I am originally from Glastonbury, Connecticut. My journey to residency has taken me to Tennessee and Tampa, Florida on my way back home to the northeast! I am a true New Englander at heart and love the fall foliage, winter snow, and especially Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. I come from a large Irish and Italian family and am a fraternal triplet, so I’m quite excited to be close to them while beginning my residency journey at such a community-oriented institution like Baystate. I am a huge sports fan and am always keeping up with my Patriots, Red Sox, and other teams! I also am quite the foodie and love exploring the local traditional delis and pizza hot spots! I am beyond excited to join the Baystate Family, and cannot wait to see what Springfield has in store for me!

Dimitri Melki, MD
University of Balamand Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences
Hey everyone! I'm Dimitri. I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. I completed my BS in Biology and MD degree at the University of Balamand before moving to the US for a post-doctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins, focusing on early detection of pancreatic cancer.
Outside of medicine, I love playing football and tennis, and spending time outdoors. I'm also a devoted Manchester United fan, despite the somewhat frequent disappointment. In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar, cooking, and catching stand-up comedy shows. I'm excited to be part of the Baystate family and eager to learn and grow during our time together over the next three years!

Brian Nan, MD
New York Medical College
Hi everyone! My name is Brian Nan and I’ve been looking forward to joining the Baystate family. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, completed my undergraduate degree at Northeastern University and went to medical school at New York Medical College. I have always considered Massachusetts my second home and am excited to come back. Some of my hobbies include reading, hiking and anything nature related, rock climbing, and swimming. The most recent book I’ve been reading is Odes to Common Things by Pablo Neruda. I am a film photography enthusiast, but still very much an amateur. At home, if I’m not enjoying tea and a good book, I’m gaming with friends, watching old movie clips, or listening to music. I also love cats and hope to have a furry companion soon. I can’t wait to start a new chapter of my life at Baystate!

Herisha Shah, DO
Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine - Middletown
Hello everyone! My name is Herisha Shah. I’m from Parsippany, NJ and I attended medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic in Middletown, NY. My hobbies outside of medicine include dancing, working out at the gym, cooking/baking, photography, reading, watching movies, playing board games, and doing outdoor activities, such as hiking. I am a huge foodie and enjoy exploring new coffee shops and restaurants! I am very grateful and excited to be part of the Baystate family and I am looking forward to starting my residency training.

Grace Shin, MD
Tufts University School of Medicine
Hello! My name is Grace, and I am so excited to meet you all. I grew up in Seoul, South Korea and moved to North Carolina when I was 12. In college, I studied Psychology and Political Science (I thought I wanted to go into immigration law). I really enjoy teaching, so after college, I taught middle school math in Chicago through Teach For America. I came to Boston in 2015 for my post-baccalaureate program at Tufts and thankfully have been here ever since. I grew up playing piano, and I especially like to play when I need to reset. I also love working with my hands, so I’m always looking for new crafts/hobbies to learn. I used to kill so many plants, but now I have so many of them! Currently, I’m gathering the courage to start learning carpentry.

Sabah Sikandar, DO
Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hi everyone! My name is Sabah Sikandar. I was born in Karachi, Pakistan and moved to Florida as a teenager. I did my undergraduate at Florida International University and went to Nova Southeastern University for medical school.
I love the outdoors and enjoy spending my time reading a good book at the beach or just exploring nature by hiking. Reading, painting, binge watching tv shows and playing video games are some of the many things I enjoy doing in my free time as well. I’m a big foodie and I love exploring new cities and trying out different restaurants.
During my rotation at Baystate I fell in love with the program. Everyone I met was so welcoming and I had a great time exploring the northeast. I’m excited to be a part of the Baystate family and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone.

Priyanka Talagadadeevi, MD
State University of New York Upstate Medical University Alan and Marlene Norton College of Medicine
Hello! My name is Priyanka. I come from a small town in New York and grew up in a very tight-knit community. I spent many years in Boston for undergrad and work and I am so excited to be back in Massachusetts for residency!
Outside of medicine, some of my favorite things in the world are sunny days on the beach, reading a good book on a rainy day, and exploring new places through food and architecture. On my days off, you’ll catch me dancing to music, learning how to bake, and trying to figure out how to make my plants thrive.
During my time in Norton School of Medicine, I found purpose in serving the underserved and I really look forward to making difference through compassion and empathy while being a part of the Baystate family. I am absolutely delighted to be here and to start this part of my journey surrounded and supported by the members of this community.

Humberto Urrutia, MD
Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Facultad de Medicina Guadalajara
Hello everyone, I'm Humberto Urrutia, born in El Paso, Texas, but raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the border city of El Paso. I graduated medical school from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, with my clinical clerkships completed in Phoenix, Arizona.
Beyond medicine, my interests mainly revolve around the outdoors. Skiing, horseback riding, camping, and hiking are my passions. I also find joy in cooking; there's something special about grilling “carne asada” over mesquite charcoal while surrounded by loved ones. Besides my fondness for the outdoors, I also enjoy socializing with friends, whether it's going out, having a Netflix binge session, or catching the latest movie at the theaters.
Baystate resonated with my values and beliefs. The welcoming atmosphere and sense of belonging during the interview process, combined with the program's academic excellence, excite me to join the Baystate Family.

Garfield Walker, MD
Tufts University School of Medicine
Hi everyone! I'm Garfield Walker, hailing from the sunny shores of Montego Bay, Jamaica. My childhood, a stone's throw away from the beach, fostered my love for the ocean, music, and deep philosophical musings. Moving to the U.S. at 13 introduced me to new horizons. Diagnosed with Marfan syndrome at age 2, I've learned resilience and developed a passion for healthcare, leading me to Tufts University School of Medicine for my medical studies.
At 6'7", I paradoxically find solace in long car rides, letting the landscape and music inspire me. I'm excited to embark on a new journey at Baystate, ready to immerse in its vibrant community, contribute to our growth, and explore New England's rich culture and nature. At Baystate, I see a place where I can not only advance my career but also contribute to a culture that values every individual’s well-being. Here's to new beginnings and making meaningful differences!

Gabryjela Walsh, MD
University of Massachusetts T.H. Chan School of Medicine
My name is Gabi Walsh. I was born in Brooklyn NY and raised in Western Mass. I grew up in Chicopee and attended undergrad at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley. I attended medical school at UMass Chan in Worcester and was one of the PURCH students at Baystate. I love all things Western Mass so be sure to ask me for recommendations on where to eat or fun things to do! I live with my husband Dan and our two cats. In my free time I love playing board games or video games with friends. You can often find me cozy on the couch reading a book or playing on my Switch. I enjoy hiking and my favorite trip was driving around Iceland in a camper van. I am very excited to continue my training at Baystate and look forward to a long career in Western Massachusetts.

Donyell Williams, MD
University of Connecticut School of Medicine
Although I was born on the west coast, New England has been my home for essentially my entire life. I was raised in the northwest corner of Connecticut and attended college at Western New England University in Springfield. During the four years between college and medical school I worked in the operating room at Mercy Medical Center, also as an EMT in Springfield, and finally as a research assistant at UConn Health. I completed medical school at the University of Connecticut prior to starting residency. My favorite things to do include playing sports, watching sports, and going to the beach. I am very excited to start my training at Baystate! Western Massachussetts is one of my favorite places on Earth and I look forward to serving the community that has given me so much!
