PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency

The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy residency program at Baystate Medical Center offers a high-quality learning experience that builds upon your PGY-1 pharmacy practice skills.

In our residency, you will develop:

  • accountability
  • practice patterns and habits
  • expert knowledge in the specialized areas of antimicrobial stewardship pharmacy practice, infectious diseases, and academia.

Our graduates can expect to be prepared for positions such as, pharmacists specializing in infectious disease pharmacotherapy or antimicrobial stewardship program management,  faculty members at a college/school of pharmacy, research fellows, medical science liaisons, or pharmacy clinical coordinators.

Training is Focused, Yet Flexible

Our PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency consists of 11 rotation training blocks concentrating on many aspects of infectious disease pharmacy practice.

Your training focuses on developing the ability to deal with a range of diseases and syndromes that occur in the infected patient—with special emphasis on the complexities of developing and managing a sustainable health-system antimicrobial stewardship program.

Additionally, the program introduces the intricacies of maintaining a faculty practice site and didactic pharmacy student education.

And, it's flexibility means the program can be customized to accommodate your knowledge, skills, attitudes, abilities, interests, and career goals.

ASHP Required PGY2 PURPOSE STATEMENT

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy.

Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in the specialized practice area (when board certification for the practice area exists).

The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy residency program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
