What attracted you to Baystate Medical Center?

What attracted me initially to Baystate was the diverse learning experience the institution provided. We have such a strong, yet diverse core curriculum, I couldn’t ignore it. What essentially made me choose Baystate was surprisingly decided when I did my interview here. I felt the pharmacy department here at Baystate really looked to me as a learner and took great interest in the human side of me. I never felt so calm in an interview in my life!

What is your favorite thing about living in the area?

Even though I lived in busy Boston for the past 6 years, I really love the amount of greens you see here in Springfield. I prefer the quiet and calm environment, so I am loving it out here in Western Massachusetts. I am really looking forward to the fall season, the trees changing colors will be beautiful.

The people! All the preceptors are amazing and have so much knowledge to give. The overall attitude towards pharmacy throughout the hospital is very welcoming and makes for a great interdisciplinary working environment. There's also many different learning opportunities in critical care which is a big plus for me.

The fall foliage, the breweries, so many outdoor activities. It's also driving distance from Boston, New York, and Stamford CT which are all great for weekend trips.

What attracted you to Baystate Medical Center?

From my short time here as a student on rotations, I quickly knew this was the place for me! Given it is a large academic medical center and level 1 trauma center, and even has an in-house children’s hospital, I knew Baystate would provide me with a broad range of learning opportunities as a resident to help me become a well-rounded pharmacist. The pharmacy department is very well-integrated within the different care teams, and the preceptors and staff are all so friendly and helpful! There are also a lot of teaching and precepting opportunities with several local pharmacy schools.

What is your favorite thing about living in the area?

I have lived in this area for my whole life, and absolutely love New England! There are plenty of mountains for hiking and skiing as well as some great beaches for the summer, all within driving distance. One of my favorite places to visit is Cape Cod, which is only about a 2-hour drive away.

What attracted you to Baystate Medical Center?

I was initially attracted to Baystate Medical Center because the program offered the variety of rotations and experiences I was looking for. Additionally, I could see that the pharmacy department was built on high-quality in-depth learning, interdisciplinary practice, personalized development, and had a strong organizational culture. When I first met Taylor (PGY1 last year and current Critical Care PGY2), I could tell through my conversation with her that this program was everything and more. She confirmed that the program is designed to allow residents to experience exponential growth and truly sets them up for the next step of their career. I also liked that this program offered five PGY1 positions. It was reassuring to know that I would have a community to experience residency with! The institution is incredible beyond the pharmacy department, too. I learned during my application process that the environment at Baystate is extremely collaborative, and I would definitely agree with that. This program and this hospital have so much to offer!

What is your favorite thing about living in the area?

I love exploring new places! So far, I’ve gone hiking, kayaking, and biking in the surrounding area. I’ve really enjoyed all of the beautiful scenery and outdoor activities I’ve been able to do with the nearby mountains and rivers. I’ve also enjoyed finding new restaurants and coffee shops. Given that western Massachusetts is located fairly close to New Hampshire and Vermont, I am also looking forward to going snowboarding in the winter months. Of course, we aren’t far from the beach either. Basically, there are so many things to do in the area and nearby. I’m still exploring and determining my favorites, but I’ve loved everything I’ve been able to do in my free time thus far.
