Hyundai Hope On Wheels $100,000 Grant Supports Baystate Children’s Hospital Cancer Patients

Baystate Children’s Hospital’s Division of Oncology was recently awarded a $100,000 Hyundai Hope On Wheels Impact Grant to support pediatric cancer care. A celebration and check presentation was held on November 3 outside of Baystate Medical Center.

The grant, which was secured through Baystate Health Foundation, will support various aspects of cancer care at Baystate Children’s Hospital.

“It is an incredible honor to receive a Hyundai Hope On Wheels Grant to help enhance care for our patients with pediatric cancer,” shared Division Chief, Hematology/Oncology, Dr. Matthew Richardson. “These funds will support many aspects of the care we provide and make a tangible difference on the lives of our patients and their families.”

Funds from the grant will support clinical research, which will allow for children in the community access to the newest treatment, as well as a nurse practitioner with expertise in childhood cancer, who helps coordinate and educate families on the complex treatments, testing, and follow up of children with cancer. The Hyundai Hope On Wheels grant will also help children who are undergoing treatment to experience milestone events that they may miss while in the hospital or out of school, such as gifts for birthdays or holidays, as well as provide distractions with activities during long clinic visits.
