Baystate Health Names Amir Lotfi, MD, Chief Medical Officer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.— Baystate Health has named Amir Lotfi, MD, Chief Medical Officer, effective September 28, 2026. In this role, Dr. Lotfi will provide system-wide clinical leadership and help advance Baystate Health’s priorities in quality, safety, patient experience, health equity and value across its integrated health system.

“Dr. Lotfi brings a deep understanding of our organization, our physicians and the communities we serve, along with a strong commitment to delivering excellent care,” said Scott Lichtenberger, MD, Chief Operating Officer, Baystate Health. “His collaborative approach emphasizes shared purpose, trust, listening to those closest to the work, and aligning clinical priorities with operations, strategy and responsible financial stewardship. His leadership in this role will be instrumental in continuing to drive the highest quality of care."

Dr. Lotfi completed his Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at Baystate Medical Center in 2005 and then his Interventional and Peripheral Cardiology Fellowship in 2006, before stepping into operational, academic and physician leadership roles in critical care, patient placement and transfer, and cardiovascular care. Passionate about Western Massachusetts and helping generations thrive, he currently serves as Chief of Cardiology and Associate Medical Director, Heart & Vascular Program, Baystate Health. Dr. Lotfi has provided long-standing leadership in STEMI quality improvement, high-acuity cardiovascular care, clinical governance, and clinical outcomes.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Lotfi will provide leadership for quality measurement, clinical quality improvement, patient and team member safety, peer review, infection control, and quality improvement education and training. He also will help maintain momentum in Baystate Health’s High Reliability Organization journey.

Dr. Lotfi earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from McMaster University and his Doctor of Medicine from Spartan Health Sciences University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Stamford Hospital/Columbia University College of Physicians. He is a professor of medicine at UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate. In 2025, he was recognized by his peers for Exemplary Leadership at the Baystate Medical Practices Physician Excellence Awards.
