WARE, Mass. — Baystate Health is moving forward with plans to bring Baystate Mary Lane Convenient Care – Ware to the Quaboag region. Construction is expected to begin in November following completion of final design, local permitting, Department of Public Health regulatory review and final project approvals.

A general contractor has been identified for the project, which will transform the former Smithland Pet and Garden Center at 144 West Street into a new convenient care facility. Construction is anticipated to be completed in late spring 2027.

The new facility will provide residents with convenient access to care for a wide range of illnesses and injuries, with on-site diagnostic services designed to make it easier for patients to receive the care they need in one location. Services will include:

  • Convenient care for common illnesses and injuries
  • Digital X-ray services on site
  • Laboratory services on site
  • Scheduled appointments and walk-in visits
  • Evening and weekend hours

“Expanding access to care means being present in the communities we serve and making it easier for people to get the care they need,” said Dr. Seth Gemme, Chief Physician Executive of Baystate Health and President of Baystate Medical Practices. “This is an important investment in the health of the community and in making healthcare more accessible for the people we serve. It gives individuals and families another place to turn for the right care at the right time, while strengthening our ability to support the health and well-being of the community for years to come.”

Baystate Mary Lane Convenient Care – Ware will offer a convenient way for community members to access care and common diagnostic services in one location. In addition to addressing immediate health needs, the team can help patients connect with primary care and other services to support their ongoing health.

Baystate Health previously announced that the Ware location could eventually expand to include primary care services and potentially serve as a site for a family medicine residency program. The potential expansion is dependent on securing support from the Rural Transformation Health Fund. If funded, the program could launch as early as 2028-2029 and would build on the community-focused approach used by Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s family medicine residency program.

The Ware project is part of Baystate Health’s continued investment in expanding access to care across Western Massachusetts and reflects its mission to deliver compassionate, quality and accessible care while advancing our communities’ health for all.
