We’re always redefining our definition of excellence, looking for the best surgical treatments for our patients while developing the next generation of surgical leaders. Charting the future of surgical education is just as important to us as our long tradition of surgical excellence. Our surgical residency program is led by a faculty of more than 50 nationally recognized surgeons who represent nearly every surgical field.

We are proud of the high-quality, safe care our surgical teams provide – from the doctors to the nurses and the support staff – for all our patients, before surgery, as well as during and after surgical procedures. And because we understand that excellent surgical care goes beyond the operating room, we also provide a variety of support services and resources for patients and their families.

Survivor turned her car accident “into something beautiful”

Brenna Bean’s life was saved at Baystate Medical Center’s Level 1 trauma center. After a serious car accident, our doctors discovered she had a collapsed lung, a spinal cord injury, broken vertebrae and ribs, injuries to her kidneys, and blood clots in her chest. As result of the accident and the care she received at Baystate Health, Brenna believes she now has momentum and purpose. With a background in adaptive sports and recreational therapy, she wants to help others overcome physical obstacles like hers.
Measuring, Assessing and Improving Performance
We are always improving the care we provide for our patients. And that commitment shows, through our recognition by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) for upholding the patient safety standards they set.
