Gynecologic Cancer

 Back to Services

If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer in your uterus, cervix, ovaries, or vagina, you deserve specialized care that’s also close to home. Baystate’s gynecologic oncology experts are the only doctors in western Massachusetts who specialize in treating gynecological cancers.

While others rely on a gynecologist working with a surgeon and medical oncologist, Baystate’s cohesive approach to gynecological oncology means better outcomes for our patients.

Pioneering Treatment And Minimally Invasive Procedures

Our team proactively researches and stays up to date on the latest treatment options for gynecological cancer.

We are also experienced in the latest minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery techniques. Minimally invasive surgery is now the standard of care for many gynecological cancers, including endometrial cancer.

Robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery can mean:

  • Fewer incisions
  • Less bleeding
  • Fewer complications
  • Faster healing
  • Less downtime

Team Approach To Treating Gynecologic Cancer

We’ll work with you to develop the best treatment plan, collaborating with other specialists including pathologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologists, fertility specialists, dietitians, counselors, and physical therapists.

Routine gynecologic exams and Pap smears performed by an obstetrician-gynecologist or certified nurse midwife can help detect gynecological cancers early before symptoms appear. Talk to your health care provider about how often you should have these exams.

Early Warning Signs

  • Painful sex
  • Abnormal menstrual cycles
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, or feeling of fullness
  • Constipation or increased gas
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Excessive hair growth that is coarse or dark
