Simulation Training for Internal Medicine
Simulation Training for Internal Medicine
We have more than 12 years of experience teaching internal medicine residents with Human Patient Simulation (HPS) in our Baystate Simulation Center and Goldberg Surgical Skills Lab. The Simulation Center is a 4,000+ square-foot facility where the most advanced, innovative teaching techniques and simulation technology are applied to the teaching of medicine. It was among the first simulation centers in the world to be accredited by the American College of Surgeons.
Our innovative longitudinal simulation curriculum spans all three years of residency—you start your simulation training in July during Intern Boot Camp.
Weekly Teaching Team Simulation Sessions
As an intern on medical wards, you will use HPS to provide care in a variety of patient scenarios, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, atrial fibrillation, hypertensive emergency, and several shock states.
Teacher residents (PG3) play a crucial role during these simulation sessions. You will be responsible for leading simulation debriefings—excellent opportunities to practice delivering feedback, and develop skills to teach small groups.
Weekly Acute Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ACLS) Leadership Sessions
Manager residents (PG2) during medical wards practice leading ACLS algorithms and Peri-code scenarios, including unstable arrhythmias.
The focus of these sessions is to ensure you have the leadership and teamwork skills required to provide exceptional patient care on the medical floors during acute care patient encounters.
