Emergency Medicine Residency Diversity and Inclusion

Committed to Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Workforce

The Emergency Medicine residency is actively recruiting applicants from diverse backgrounds, and students who are traditionally underrepresented in medicine. We seek applicants with diversity in religion, race, ethnicity, gender, background, and orientation—to reflect the patient population we serve.

As an institution, we are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive of all people. We acknowledge the importance of creating an environment and workforce centered upon a common goal: Improving the health of our community including our patients and their loved ones.

Fostering a Culturally Sensitive Environment for All Residents

The Department of Emergency Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate strives to maintain an environment of tolerance and inclusion, where trainees and faculty of all backgrounds are accepted within our Baystate family.

We recognize the current injustices in the world, and commit to consistently engage in open dialogue regarding health inequities, bias, and cultural competence. We incorporate open dialogue in our journal clubs and didactics, and foster an environment open to diverse thoughts and people. In addition, our department is committed to addressing health disparities through scholarly work and multidisciplinary collaboration within our institution.
