Pathology Residency Program At-A-Glance

Baystate Medical Center is a major teaching, clinical, and research facility and the regional campus of UMass Chan Medical School. The Baystate Pathology residency training program provides integrated training in anatomic and clinical pathology. Baystate Pathology/Baystate Medical Center is a “Molecular Center of Excellence” promoting molecular diagnostic pathology. Our faculty and residents create a cooperative and friendly environment in which you acquire the skills and knowledge needed to become a successful pathologist.

Curriculum Summary

Each year the residents get a balance of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology rotations which include the following:

  • Anatomic Pathology (26 months): Surgical Pathology, Dermatopathology, Autopsy, Frozen Section, Advanced Cytopathology, Advanced Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Forensic Pathology, Neuropathology/Renal Pathology
  • Clinical Pathology (19 months): Transfusion Medicine Service, Chemistry, Cytogenetics & Molecular, Immunopathology/Serology, Hematology/Hematopathology, Microbiology, Advanced Clinical Pathology
  • Electives (3 months): Sub-specialty Electives
  • Research Rotation (1 month): Dedicated research rotation at PVLSI biomedical research center during PGY2 year
