Caitlyn Herrmann, DO
New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine

Caitlyn will be graduating from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in May. She also received her BS from University of South Florida in Tampa. She has participated in many volunteer activities throughout her medical school years. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and cooking/baking in her spare time. She rotated with our department in Fall 2024.

Ria Mahendru, MD
Kasturba Medical College Mangalore

Ria received her MBBS from Kasturba Medical College Mangalore- India in 2020. She has completed an AP Residency at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where she also completed research in Cytopathology and Head and Neck pathology. She is professionally trained in 'Kathak', a traditional form of classical Indian dance and one of the most complex forms of Indian theatre and enjoys focuses on her health and strength training.

Anoushika Mehan, MD
All-India Institute of Medical Sciences

Anoushika received her MBBCh. from Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences & Research and her MD from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh in 2020, where she also completed an AP/CP residency and worked as an attending prior to relocating to the US. She is currently a Hematopathology fellow at UMASS Chan- Worcester. She enjoys gardening, yoga and painting.

Orlin is a 2020 graduate of Medical University of Sofia Faculty of Medicine in Bulgaria. He worked as an AP Resident in Bulgaria, and has completed multiple observerships across the US. He enjoys participating in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and studying world history.

Amarah completed her undergraduate studies at the University of New England College of Medicine in Maine, and grew up in Vermont. She has participated in multiple volunteer efforts during medical school and also worked with a Pathologist in VT to build a database of COVID-19 patients to merge with the whole genome sequence of their virus for tracking infection. Her hobbies include arts such as painting, drawing, and sewing and she also dedicates time to working with the Humane Society.

Busra Isik, MD
Ankara Yildirim Beyazit Universitesi Tip Fakultesi

Busra graduated from Yildirim Beyazit University School of Medicine in Turkey. After graduation, she worked as a postdoctoral research scholar at the Mayo Clinic, where she focused on mesenchymal stem cells. She later joined SiParadigm Diagnostic Informatics in New Jersey as a pathologists’ aide, contributing to both the hematopathology and molecular pathology teams. In her free time, she enjoys nature walks, photography, swimming, and reading. Busra will be joining us on July 1st after completion of her PGY1 year at Tufts University School of Medicine.

Poombal has completed multiple observerships across the US and has worked as a pathology intern in Pakistan. She is known on YouTube as “Dr. Poombal ” where she dedicates time to simplify complex MBBS topics through multimedia, including videos and memes, fostering self-directed learning which she began during the COVID pandemic to adapt to virtual learning. She also enjoys trying new cuisines during her travels.

My name is AlBatool (which literally translates to “The Batool”!), but you can call me Batool.

I’m a 2021 graduate of Assiut University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. I am currently training in the Pathology Department at International Medical Center in Saudi Arabia, where I gross specimens and attend sign-outs with senior pathologists. I spent time during my internship researching gynecological cancers; particularly on a project investigating “Prognostic value of systematic lymphadenectomy in patients with ovarian cancer.”

My hobbies include crafting and DIY projects, photographing animals (especially cats!), gluten-free baking, swimming, and cycling. I am an avid cat lover and a tea addict. So let’s talk about cats over a cup of tea! “

I graduated from Nepal Medical College in 2020. I am currently a Pathology Intern at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center and I am involved with multiple research projects including renal cell carcinoma, intraoperative frozen section consultation, and primary lymphoma of the larynx.

I am a lifetime member of the Nepal Cancer Relief Society and have volunteered as a medical officer with the team from Chirayu National Hospital in rural areas of Kathmandu.

When not studying, I love working out, doing outdoor activities like hiking, rafting, and cliff diving as well as spending time with my family, friends, and dogs.

Dr Joyce Arnouk

Joyce Arnouk, MD
University of Tishreen

Joyce is a 2014 graduate of the University of Tishreen Faculty of Medicine in the Syrian Arab Republic. She has completed a Clinical Pathology residency at Al Basel Hospital. She also has rotated through many observerships across the United States. Recently, Joyce has worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Iowa, focusing on metastatic renal cancer. She enjoys playing piano and performing in concerts, swimming and ballroom dancing. Joyce also worked on the front lines providing first aid care and evacuation services to displaced families during the Syrian uprising.

Dr Paula Cortes Barrantes

Paula Cortes, MD
Barrantes Universidad de Costa Rica

Paula is a 2002 graduate of Universidad de Costa Rica Facultad de Medicina in Costa Rica. She completed both an Anatomic Pathology residency and Pediatric Pathology fellowship in Costa Rica. Paula has completed an Ophthalmic Pathology fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston where she currently resides. Paula also completed a Hematopathology Fellowship at UMass Worcester in 2021. She enjoys swimming, jogging, drawing, reading, watching documentaries and movies, and visiting museums.

Dr Zehra Kocas

Zehra Kocas, MD
Afyon Kocatepe Universitesi Tip Fakultesi

Zehra graduated from Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Tip Fakültesi in Turkey in 2015. She is currently working at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as an academic researcher where she is working on two projects about minor homozygosity of several genetic variants associated with fatty liver disease. Zehra previously worked as a Pathologists Assistant at siParadigm Diagnostic Informatics in New Jersey. She enjoys swimming (especially in the waves), drawing, painting, sodoku and coding.

Dr Mona Sharief

Mona Sharief, MD
University of Khartoum

Mona graduated from the University of Khartoum Faculty of Medicine in Sudan in 2010. She is currently working as a Pathologist at Ultra Lab Medical Laboratories in Khartoum. She also worked as a Pathologist in Saudi Arabia. Mona enjoyed her time as a visiting professor at Sudan International University. She enjoys planning gatherings and receptions for her family and friends.
