The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency program at Baystate Medical Center offers a high-quality, in-depth learning environment that enables pharmacists to develop accountability, practice patterns and habits, and expert knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities in the advanced area of critical care pharmacy practice.
The Experience You Need to be a Critical Care Practice Leader
You will graduate equipped to be a fully integrated member of the interdisciplinary critical care team, able to make complex medication and nutrition support decisions in the fast-paced environment of the intensive care unit.
Training focuses on developing your capability to deal with a range of diseases and disorders that occur in the critically ill. Special emphasis is placed on the complexities of multiple organ system failure and the difficulties imposed on care when patients require life-sustaining measures and interventions.
Graduates of the program can expect to be prepared for positions including, but not limited to, a pharmacist specializing in critical illness pharmacotherapy, faculty at a college of pharmacy, research fellow, medical science liaison, or pharmacy clinical coordinator.
Training Designed for Each Resident
Our PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency consists of 12 rotation training blocks concentrating on all aspects of critical care practice. It's flexibility allows the program to be customized to accommodate your knowledge, skills, attitudes, abilities, interests, and career goals.
All program graduates are expected to demonstrate competency in the areas of contemporary pharmacy practice, written and oral communication, teaching, and clinical research.
ASHP Required PGY2 Purpose Statement
PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy.
Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in the specialized practice area (when board certification for the practice area exists).
