When Joe Sills was twelve, he grew bouquets of zinnias for a Lebanese restaurant which paid him in french fries. Until he became a doctor it was the best job he ever had.
He graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2013 and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He spent his third year of medical school at Baystate; it was one of the most rewarding years of his life and he is happy to have returned.
As a resident at the University of California San Francisco, he focused on airway education and departmental quality improvement projects, and was a member of the UCSF Quality Review Board. He was voted “Resident Educator of the Year’ when he graduated in 2017. He has since worked in community hospitals in the California Bay Area and as the Associate Director at Seton Medical Center in Daly City. He has also worked clinically overseas in Saipan and Reykjavík, Iceland.
He has a Master in Fine Arts from UVA where he was a Poe/Faulkner fellow in fiction. His work has been published in Zoetrope and featured in NPR’s Snap Judgement.
He likes to go on walks with his wife and push his daughter in the swing; it’s his best job yet.
