Breast Oncology Fellowship Research

Breast Oncology fellows are expected to perform and complete clinical research that is suitable for presentation and publication.

Departmental Support

To support you in achieving this goal, the surgery department provides:

  • Department biostatistician, help with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) review process, and our patient database
  • Guidance by the breast surgery team and the Office of Research
  • Exposure to clinical trials with the help of the clinical trials office at the Cancer Center

Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute

PVLSI is a partnership between the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Baystate Medical Center with a mission to develop innovative approaches to diagnose, monitor, and treat disease.

You will have access to PVLSI laboratories for your research project. The Institute provides the physical space and resources for collaborative research through access to both the patients and human specimens needed for your research protocol.

Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research

Funding from The Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research funding and access to their breast tissue repository is an important resource for conducting translational research projects. The Center is supported by a $1.5M grant from the Rays of Hope, a Springfield-based charity representing western Massachusetts.
