Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at UMass Chan-Baystate

The Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at Baystate Medical Center is a 3-year program of two week clinical rotations and daily educational conferences. Four fellows are chosen each year through the National Residency Match Program.

Our Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship receives approximately 400 applications for its four openings during each application season.

Program Strengths

Fellows receive training in cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, electrophysiology, nuclear cardiology, cardiac intensive care, heart failure and general cardiology.

Post-Fellowship Opportunities

After successful completion of the 3 year program, you qualify for COCATS level 2 certification in Adult Echocardiography, Exercise Testing, ECG and Ambulatory ECG  Monitoring, Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization and Nuclear Cardiology.

You may further your education by applying to Baystate's:

• Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program—Each year, graduates of our Cardiology Fellowship enter this 12-month program.
• Electrophysiology Fellowship Program—This 24-month program supports one fellow for two years.

Many who come to Baystate for fellowship training choose to remain in the area after graduation. The Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts offers cultural and recreational activities in a beautiful setting.  The area is home to the Five Colleges and numerous musical, theatrical and museum events.  Outlets for skiing, hiking, boating, and other outdoor activities abound close to the Connecticut River and in the nearby Berkshires.

Program-at-a-glance

Thank you for your interest in our ACGME accredited 3-year Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate. We currently offer 4 positions per year for a total of 12 fellows. The program provides an academically and clinically rigorous training program in general cardiology as well as advanced training in clinical cardiology subspecialties and cardiovascular research. The curriculum is designed to provide a broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic cardiovascular care occurring in the inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as extensive experience in non-invasive and invasive cardiac procedures.

All fellow trainees selected for the Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Training Program are required to have completed an accredited three year residency program in internal medicine. Fellowship trainees are selected through the NRMP (National Resident Matching Program).
