  • Condyloma (genital infections)
  • Fistulas
  • Fissures
  • Rectal prolapse

Diagnosis

Anorectal disorders can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Blood in your stool
  • Irritation and itching
  • Leaking or passing stool before you can reach the toilet
  • Fever

If you have any of these issues, talk to your doctor. Your doctor will start with a physical exam, and may recommend further testing or a visit with a specialist, such as a colorectal expert at Baystate Health.

Treatment

Many times, treatment for anorectal disorders does not involve surgery. Your treatment may include changes in your diet, medicine, or warm baths. When surgery is required, it can often be done as an outpatient procedure and no hospitalization is needed.
