Brain Tumor Surgery

The experts at Baystate offer a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating brain tumors.

Our neurosurgeons use the latest techniques, including minimally invasive approaches, mini-craniotomies, neuroendoscopy, and neuronavigation for image-guided removal of brain tumors. We also use intraoperative imaging for a real-time view of our progress during surgery.

Expert Brain Surgery in Western Massachusetts

More than 10 years ago, our team pioneered awake craniotomies in our region. Being awake during brain surgery can lead to better results and helping preserve speech and motor function. Awake craniotomies paired with brain mapping also allow surgeons to remove tumors located in critical parts of the brain that were previously thought inoperable.

Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Brain Tumors

At Baystate, we consider surgery just one part of treatment for a brain tumor. Our team of neurosurgeons will work closely with other specialists to determine the safest and most effective care for you.

If your brain tumor is malignant (linked with cancer), your neurosurgeon will collaborate with experts in radiation, oncology, medical oncology, neuropathology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology. These doctors regularly meet as the Brain Tumor Board at the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, where they review cases and consult on treatment plans.
