Sclerotherapy

This procedure is used to treat spider and varicose veins.

During sclerotherapy, your doctor injects a solution into your veins. This causes the vessels to collapse and eventually fade away.

You can return to normal activities immediately after this procedure.

Venous ablation therapy

This is a minimally invasive procedure that treats spider and varicose veins by heating, collapsing, and sealing off the vein. Your surgeon may use laser or radiofrequency.

Venous ablation is typically done as an outpatient procedure, meaning you don’t stay overnight in the hospital.

The team at Baystate has the only board-certified vascular surgeons in western Massachusetts performing venous ablation. We have done thousands of successful ablations.

VenaSeal closure

This is a new and minimally invasive option for treating varicose veins.

During this procedure, your doctor will use special medical glue to close the vein. It is considered a “nonthermal” procedure, which means it is done without heat energy.

It does not require local anesthesia. You can return to normal activities immediately after VenaSeal.

Vein stripping and ligation

Vein stripping and ligation is considered a traditional surgery done to treat complex varicose veins and symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).

During this surgery, you are under general anesthesia. Your surgeon ties off your vein, then removes it.

You will likely stay overnight in the hospital after vein stripping and ligation.
