The Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health track celebrated Residency Match Day on March 18, 2022 with all 27 graduating PURCH students successfully matching to a categorical residency program.
Two PURCH students return to UMass Chan-Baystate in July for their residency programs—Meghan Harrington (Emergency Medicine) and Molly Ingemi (Internal Medicine).
Six remain in Massachusetts for residency training. More than half, 14 of 27, are entering primary care, which is experiencing a nationwide shortage of physicians.
During the Match Day ceremony, it was announced that PURCH student Iha Kaul was voted class speaker, representing the entire UMass Chan Medical School graduating class of 162 students.

About The Match Process
Match Day, held annually on the third Friday of March, is when graduating medical students learn where they will undergo residency training.
During their final year of medical school, students apply to, and interview with, residency programs of their choice. Then applicants and program directors rank each other in order of preference. The National Resident Matching Program uses a computerized mathematical algorithm to match applicants with programs. Applicants receive an envelope with their match results—this year an email as well—which the NRMP mandates cannot be opened before noon.
