Springfield, MASS. — Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Baystate Wing Hospital maintained an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for Fall 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety, while Baystate Noble Hospital maintained its ‘B’ rating. Baystate Medical Center received a ‘D’ rating.

Published twice a year, Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades are based on data compiled from external sources and the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The Fall 2025 Safety Grade represents hospital performance between July 1, 2021, and December 31, 2024, across 22 national patient safety measures divided into two categories– Process/Structural Measures and Outcomes Measures. As some of the measured data reflects prior reporting periods, the scores may not fully represent current outcomes.

The team at Baystate Medical Center has been working intentionally to improve performance over the past few years. Many areas that the report measures did see considerable improvement, and additional opportunities for growth have been identified. Baystate Health is on a journey to become a High Reliability Organization across its integrated health system by 2030, aligning around shared guiding principles and strengthen our standard work across the system – hospitals, medical group, health plan and more.

“We will continue to strengthen our focus on safety, quality, and patient experience to ensure that every patient receives safe, high-quality, compassionate and accessible care,” said Peter D. Banko, President & CEO, Baystate Health. “The work of our 13,000 caregivers each day continues to make a profound difference for our patients and our communities. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our pursuit of zero harm and in advancing Baystate Health as a High Reliability Organization.”
