A Picture Perfect Tribute to Baystate Home & Health Hospice Team

Sylvia Pyzocha was a special woman. She spent 30 years employed by the US Postal Service and served as the first full-time female city mail carrier in Palmer, MA. She was an award-winning photographer, a passion she took up after her retirement. Her ability to capture nature and the beauty of the world around her could be attributed to a lifetime of spending time outdoors and enjoying all it had to offer. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend—her family’s bond being a close one that brought them all so much joy.

“I was always trying to follow her path,” shared her younger sister Sandy Walsh. “She had such an impact–a positive one–on everyone around her.”

In April 2021, Sylvia passed away after a battle with cancer. She was cared for in her final days by her family and members of the Baystate Home Health & Hospice (BHHH) team. After her passing, Sandy was so touched by the work of the BHHH team members, she took a unique approach to giving back that was a direct nod to Sylvia.

Some of Sylvia’s artwork was recently featured in an exhibit at the Springfield Museums. In order to say thank you and show her appreciation for the care her sister received, Sandy worked with the museum to provide each BHHH team member with a ticket to the exhibit.

“At a really hard time, the hospice team made it easier,” shared Sandy. “It was a really peaceful time for our family and for Sylvia. They raised our hearts.”

For Sandy, it’s about showing their family’s appreciation and sharing a piece of her sister’s world.

“I’m enamored with the people who work so hard in hospice,” said Sandy. “I wanted to help arrange this to allow them to see the beauty in the moments Sylvia was able to capture.”

Sandy and her family’s generosity will help continue Sylvia’s legacy and allow for the BHHH team to see the world through Sylvia’s lens—a picture perfect way to honor her sister.
