Raju Panta, MD
Fellowship Program Director
Assistant Professor of Medicine, UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate

Welcome to the UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Fellowship.

Our ACGME‑accredited, two‑year program delivers exceptional clinical breadth, rigorous didactics, and dedicated mentorship. Fellows manage diverse, complex endocrine conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings, develop hands‑on procedural skills (thyroid ultrasound/FNA, DEXA interpretation, CGM and insulin pump management), and participate in multidisciplinary care with Pathology, Neurosurgery, and Endocrine Surgery. We emphasize progressive responsibility, deliberate skill development, and a culture of clinical excellence and integrity, so graduates are prepared for independent practice and board certification.

My professional focus is education, multidisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, and adoption of new technologies to improve patient care and training. I embrace openness to change—continually updating curricula, integrating diabetes technology and procedural skills, and encouraging innovative approaches to clinical problems. I prioritize creating a supportive environment where fellows are empowered to learn, lead, and adapt in a rapidly evolving field.

Chief, Division Endocrinology and Diabetes
Medical Director, Baystate Health System-wide Diabetes Care
Assistant Professor of Medicine, UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate

I am delighted to welcome you to the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at Baystate. Our division has a strong commitment to education and to preparing the next generation of endocrinologists for successful and fulfilling careers. We are well positioned to support fellows as they build foundational knowledge, refine clinical judgment, and develop confidence across the breadth of endocrinology. We support multiple education conferences including Endocrine Grand Rounds, case conference, board reviews, pituitary conference and multidisciplinary tumor board. Our fellows are exposed to a wide array of endocrine pathologies, including rare and complex conditions such as osteogenesis imperfecta, MEN1 and MEN2, and SDHD mutations, to name a few. Equally important, our division prides itself on being warm, collegial, and approachable. We value mentorship, collaboration, and creating an environment in which trainees feel supported as both learners and future colleagues.

I completed my medical education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by internal medicine residency training at Yale–New Haven Hospital and fellowship training at Washington University School of Medicine. My professional interests center on population health, particularly for individuals living with diabetes, with a parallel focus on clinical operations and systems of care that support high-quality, equitable outcomes. I look forward to welcoming our future fellows and supporting them as they navigate this important stage of their professional development.
