The overarching goals of the Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences (formerly the Institute of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences) at the UMass Chan Medical School–Baystate are to achieve:

• Better health for the people of the communities we serve
• Better value of healthcare services
• Elimination of health disparities

Transforming Health Care

Using state of the art methods in comparative effectiveness research and implementation science, Department faculty develop, implement and evaluate innovative strategies to:

• Transform the delivery of healthcare services
• Translate evidence into routine practice
• Generate new knowledge about what works, when, and under what circumstances

We accomplish this by conducting health services research projects in partnership with our local, regional and national stakeholders.

New Name, Broader Mission

Our new name—Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences—reflects our broader mission to generate and apply new knowledge to transform health care delivery and population health in support of Baystate Health’s strategic goals.

The Institute for Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences was created in 2016 when the UMass Chan Medical School partnered with Baystate Health to found their first regional campus—UMass Chan-Baystate in Springfield, MA, as a collaboration between Baystate Health, UMass Chan, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health.
