1. Bright Nights

From November to January this extravaganza in Springfield....nearly three miles of lighting displays that span from the traditional "North Pole Village" to the childhood-reminiscent, Dr. Seuss-inspired "Seuss Land"
2. Sparkly Lights
Who needs Times Square when you can ring in the new year locally?
First Night New Year’s Eve Party in Northampton. city-wide New Year's Eve party. Since 1985, First Night Northampton has filled the Paradise City with a 12-hour, family-friendly festival of the arts, culminating in a traditional ball-raising from the roof of the Hotel Northampton. Gather with friends, neighbors and visitors at 20 terrific downtown venues for an astounding array of entertainment presented by hundreds of talented performers.
Western Mass is the basecamp for incredible skiing—whether downhill or cross country.
At Berkshire East Mountain Resort (the only ski area in the world to produce 100% of its energy from onsite renewable energy) you'll find terrific alpine skiing and a snow tubing park. Nearby is Stump Sprouts Ski Touring if you prefer cross-country skiing or snowshoeing through the woods. There's more alpine skiing at Jiminy Peak, Butternut, and Wachusett, and nordic skiing at Northfield Mountain. A little further north in Vermont there are Stowe, Stratton, Killington, Okemo, and Sugar Bush.
4. Ice Castles
Head north for the ice castles in Lincoln, New Hampshire are definitely worth the drive!
The ice castles are constructed of hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. gorgeous LED-lit sculptures, ice tunnels and slides, fountains, and more. Perfect for exploring with kids, or indulging your inner-child!
6. Get Tropical
Need to de-ice? Stroll around this green paradise and forget all about the freezing temperatures.
Thaw out in the tropical heat and wonder of 4,000 fluttering exotic and domestic butterflies at Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in Deerfield, MA. If you wear vivid colors, you might be mistaken for a flower and find butterflies alighting on your finger.
