Pediatrics Department Chair's Message

Dr. Charlotte BoneyThe UMass Chan-Baystate's Pediatrics Residency Program at Baystate Children’s Hospital is an academic residency program that prepares pediatricians for primary care practice, hospital medicine, subspecialty fellowships or global health careers.

Baystate Children’s Hospital is a tertiary care hospital within a larger general hospital. Our faculty include general pediatricians, hospitalists and 12 subspecialty divisions. We have a strong mission of excellent, evidence-based patient care and rigorous academic training in an atmosphere of collegiality, support and service to the community.

We work as a team of committed physicians, nurses, technicians, clerical assistants, volunteers, parents, and patients to ensure that everything we do is done with the child in mind.

We firmly believe our residents are our junior colleagues, and we tailor training to your individual career goals. We have a well-established program in global health, and many of our former residents are practicing in the community.

Outstanding clinician educators on our faculty provide mentorship and guidance with the goal of making you a compassionate, well-rounded and enlightened pediatrician.

Please come for a visit! Western Massachusetts is a lovely place to live, to work, to learn, and to begin your life’s journey into pediatrics. I hope to see you in Springfield!

Sincerely,

Charlotte Boney, MD
Chair, Department of Pediatrics
