Personal Statement
Nathan was born and raised in a proud Portuguese immigrant family in New Bedford, Massachusetts and is the first person in his family to attend college. After his undergraduate studies at BC, Nathan received his MD and Master’s in Public Health at Tufts where he discovered his calling for family medicine. Drawn to their mission of serving the underserved and developing family physician leaders, Nathan completed a 4-year residency at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Nathan loves the longitudinal relationships as well as the comprehensiveness strong family medicine brings to his clinical practice.
Having spent the majority of his clinical rotations at Baystate as a med student, Nathan was ecstatic to hear that UMMS-Baystate was developing their own family medicine department and residency program—the first and only one in Western Massachusetts! He will be the inaugural associate program director and currently teaching medical students within his busy clinics.
In his free time, Nathan enjoys bike riding, sailing, reading fiction including comic books, visiting friends and family, drinking good coffee, and going on adventures near and far with his husband Lee.
