If you have a neurological disorder  — a problem of the brain, spinal cord, or nerves — your doctor may prescribe rehabilitation as part of your treatment. The neurological rehab team at Baystate Health is here for you through your recovery process. We’ll be with you every step of the way as you increase your functionality and independence.

We also provide help with adaptive equipment such as walkers, canes, or wheelchairs, and assistance using prostheses (artificial limbs) and orthoses (external devices to correct deformities or improve function).

Neurological Rehabilitation Treatments

Your Baystate neurological rehab team will work with you to create a plan tailored to your specific condition and circumstances. Depending on what you need help with, your rehab plan may include:

  • Activities to build your strength, endurance, and range of motion
  • Activities to improve your concentration, attention, and memory
  • Education for you and your family members/caregivers
  • Exercises to increase your strength, endurance, and range of motion
  • Functional assessment and training
  • Gait training (how to walk after an injury or illness or with the help of devices)
  • Instruction on specific skills related to your daily tasks, as well as adaptive strategies when you’re faced with new tasks
