Externships and Internships for Allied Health Students
Baystate Health values the skill and dedication of our allied health professionals—they help us provide our patients with excellent care. We are committed to developing the healthcare workforce by providing training opportunities for allied health students.
Each year, more than 600 allied health students complete externships and internships in 30+ allied health and professional programs as part of their associate, baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral-level work.
Who is Eligible For Externships or Internships?
To train in an externship or internship (also known as practicums) at Baystate Health, a student must be enrolled in an accredited program at a school, college, or university that has an affiliation agreement with us. We promote and support a strong relationship between our affiliated educational programs and Baystate Health providers. The student’s school must secure the externship or internship with a Baystate Health provider willing to supervise the student’s experience. Once secured, the Baystate Health supervisor and the affiliated program will reach out to request that the Healthcare Education Office begin the onboarding process about two months in advance of the student's internship. Onboarding should be completed approximately three weeks before the internship begins.
Baystate Health has affiliation agreements with 100+ academic institutions. Students should contact their educational program for more information on opportunities and partnerships they have established with Baystate Health providers.
