The future of pathology is here

Our 4-year ACGME-accredited Pathology Residency program curriculum provides integrated training in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Baystate Medical Center is a major academic medical center and is the regional campus of UMass Chan Medical School.

The department also has a state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics lab with NGS testing platforms.

One of the largest pathology department in New England

Our volume and breadth of interesting cases means you’ll be exposed to everything you are likely to see in practice.

That’s 50,000 surgical specimens, 70,000 cytology specimens, and 6 million to 7 million clinical tests performed annually.

Pathology Residency Faculty

Meet our faculty
All the residents of my class got fellowships at the places we wanted. That speaks tons about this program.

Learn at the side of our experts

Our faculty, many of whom have received sub-specialty training at top medical schools, are motivated teachers. And they keep us on the cutting edge of research.

You will also be rotating on Transfusion and Apheresis Medicine Services—the largest and most clinically complex type of such training experiences in western New England.

Friendly support on and off the job

Faculty and residents here know that communication is key.

You’ll be part of a team at work and have friends to unwind with off the clock. We often gather for potluck dinners and other casual events.

At national meetings that our faculty members are attending, expect to be taken under their wings and introduced to excellent people from other institutions.

Continuous educational improvement

We rely heavily on your feedback to make improvements that maximize the educational benefit to residents.

For example. we transitioned from having a flexible sign-out time of surgical pathology cases to having a mostly structured sign-out time—one that gives you more educational face time with the attending.

The Pathology Residency at UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate is ACGME-accredited.
