Do You Have the Pioneer Spirit?

The Greenfield Family Medicine Residency at UMass Chan Medical School - Baystate is the only program of its kind in the Pioneer Valley with a defined mission to prepare health professionals to serve the under-served rural populations of western Massachusetts.

Based out of the Greenfield Family Medicine practice in Franklin County, the northernmost tip of the Pioneer Valley, you will be joining a team of family physicians committed to providing evidence-based care for our under-served—but resilient—rural community.

You will have a significant impact on developing an innovative curriculum and growing the program—a lasting legacy for future family physicians in the region.

And, although this is a new residency program, our core faculty have been practicing for decades and have appointments at the UMass Chan Medical School - Baystate campus—which has been educating doctors for over a century.

The Heart of Outpatient Medicine: Continuity Clinic

From your first day of clinic, and throughout your three-year training, you will care for your own panel of patients and families under the guidance of faculty preceptors.

You will be their first point of contact in prevention and routine care, and will help coordinate and manage urgent medical issues, chronic conditions, and everything in between.

Our curriculum provides a robust, interdisciplinary education emphasizing providing high-quality, cost-effective, evidence-based outpatient medicine, common procedures, health maintenance, and wellness.

Resident Lifestyle and Well-being

Because we are creating our Family Medicine residency from the ground up, a supportive environment that is inclusive of all people and that promotes physician well-being is being built in.

Healthcare provider moral injury is a significant issue and we address this from day one:

  • You will have a dedicated advisor to guide you and help tailor your training to your individual needs as learners.
  • Our intentional curriculum is designed for adult learners and cognizant of physician wellness.
  • With our small class size you will be working closely with your attendings.
  • Limited call and no night float duties.
