Psychiatry Consultation Service
The Psychiatric Consultation Service at Baystate Health provides consultation for individuals referred from Baystate Medical Center's inpatient units and ambulatory programs. Individuals referred for consultation receive a psychiatric evaluation, the results of which are contained in a report including a diagnostic assessment, concrete recommendations for further work up (when appropriate), and specific suggestions for therapy.
Issues commonly referred for psychiatric consultation include diagnosis and treatment of delirium and dementia, assessment of suicide and homicide risk, evaluation and treatment of depression, delineation of functional from organic illness, assessment of competency, and development of strategies for coping with patients exhibiting dysfunctional behavior. Treatment modalities may involve a combination of psycho pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and stress management.
