“I never thought at 52 years old I would be in a position to no longer be able to do my job, but sure enough that’s exactly where I was,” says Chris Voudren of Westfield.
“My whole life, I relied on my physical well-being to get me through an eight hour work day. I have always been in good shape. I have a very physical job and have enjoyed a long career in shipping, receiving, and creating displays in the grocery industry. But it got to a point that I couldn’t even walk anymore,” he says.
Voudren says it was a friend who suggested he see Dr. Joseph Lellman, a surgeon at Baystate Mary Lane Orthopedics in Ware.
“I’m sure glad I did,” says Voudren. “They got me right in and before I knew it, they were scheduling me for hip replacement surgery.”
Voudren says that even though he lived in western Massachusetts his whole life (except for four years in the Army), he had never been to Ware, but he found the trip to be an easy and a beautiful drive.
“From the moment I walked through the doors at Baystate Mary Lane, I felt welcomed – by the receptionist, nurses, physicians, and the entire staff,” says Voudren. “Everyone made sure I was comfortable. It was just what I needed. Professionals doing an excellent job, keeping me informed every step of the way, and in an atmosphere perfect for healing.”
Once home from the hospital, Voudren says he did everything Lellman recommended in order to return to work as quickly as possible. “My co-workers were amazed when I was back to work in less than eight weeks,” he says. “Dr. Lellman and the staff at Baystate Mary Lane were excellent; I can’t thank them enough for getting me back to life without all the pain.”
