Cleaning helps keep patients safe from COVID-19

Baystate Health employee Steve Levesque shares his germ-killing technique and personal experience on the pandemic front lines.

Steve Levesque Shares His Story

My name is Steve Levesque. I’m a member of the Environmental Services team and I work in the Baystate Medical Center Emergency Department. My work is focused on detailed cleaning to ensure that our patients and my co-workers and I stay safe. I wipe down all areas that the patient and family touch using the disinfectant cleaner Virex® and in some cases bleach wipes. As always, infection control, sanitization and cleanliness are very important at all Baystate Health facilities.

Since the pandemic started, I have stayed calm and focused and I use very precise techniques when I clean. I also work hard to educate others on how to stay safe. The most important thing I teach my colleagues is how to wear personal protective equipment. Knowing we are protected and safe helps people in a stressful environment feel reassured.

The most rewarding part of the work I’m doing is seeing our patients go home healthy! Helping other people makes it easier to get through the day and to deal with worries about COVID-19. Being on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic makes me appreciate what I’m doing for my community.
