High Jump Champ Reaches New Heights Thanks to Baystate Rehabilitation Care
Kat Miner, 17, Frontier Regional High School’s 2015 New England High Jump Champion, felt her knee tightening while playing basketball in her off season. She thought she just needed some time off to rest injuries, but her coach suggested she see Jeff King at Baystate Rehabilitation Care.
Miner attended one of their free Sports & Exercise Medicine’s Functional Assessment Screening Tests (FAST) where patients are put through mobility steps designed to identify a number of factors that may influence the occurrence of problem behaviors. They are then given exercises to help improve any imbalances.
“I was really impressed with how informative they were, but boy was I surprised at how hard it was," says Miner. "I thought I was in great shape. I have been an athlete for many years, but I learned that I had an inflamed ligament and very weak hips and core.”
She says King and his team gave her the right core strengthening exercises and taught her proper techniques that have since got her to the top of her game and spared her the pain of shin splints.
“Thanks to King, I am back stronger than ever and looking forward to breaking more records,” says Miner.
