Traffic Alert: Main Street, Springfield for Sunday, September 18, 2016

September 16, 2016

The 2016 Puerto Rican Day Parade will take place this Sunday, September 18, 2016. With the Big E also taking place this weekend, we are expecting significant traffic impacts and would like to make recommendations to help you more easily reach Baystate Medical Center. Please be advised that Main Street, from Wason Avenue to Boland Way, and Harrison Avenue, from Main Street to Dwight Street, will be closed 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday to accommodate the parade route. Exit 10 on Interstate 91 North will be closed as well from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the exception of emergency personnel vehicles.

Driving Options

If you need to access Baystate Medical Center during the impacted timeframe, please adhere to the following:

From the South: Take I-91 North to I-291. Take your first exit onto Dwight Street. Follow “H” hospital signs. At the intersection of Carew and Chestnut Streets, take a left onto Chestnut Street and proceed straight. Baystate Medical Center will be on your right.

From the North: Take I-91 South and remain in the right two lanes. Take I-291 ramp and proceed to your first exit, Chestnut Street. Immediately upon entering Chestnut Street, make a U-Turn. Proceed straight through the intersection of Carew and Chestnut Streets, and Baystate Medical Center will be on your right.

Police officers will be stationed along the parade route to guide patients, visitors, and staff who need assistance reaching the hospital.
