Interventional Pulmonology Services and Support
Bronchoscopy
- Flexible Bronchoscopy: A minimally invasive procedure used to examine the airways, take biopsies, and remove mucus or foreign bodies.
- Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS): Combines bronchoscopy with ultrasound to guide biopsy of lymph nodes and other tissues in the chest, helping to diagnose lung cancer and other diseases.
- Robotic assisted Bronchoscopy (ENB): A cutting-edge imaging technique that allows for precise navigation to biopsy or treat deep lung lesions with minimal complications and pain.
- Cryobiopsy: A procedure to obtain tissue samples from the lungs using a freezing probe, often helpful in diagnosing interstitial lung diseases.
Airway Stenting and Dilation
- Airway Stenting: Stents are used to open narrowed or obstructed airways, often in patients with lung cancer or other conditions that cause airway collapse.
- Balloon Dilation: A technique that uses a balloon to expand narrow airways, helping improve airflow.
Pleural Procedures
- Thoracentesis: A procedure to remove fluid from the pleural space (the area around the lungs), often done for patients with pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs).
- Pleurodesis: A treatment to prevent fluid buildup by causing the pleural layers to adhere to each other, used for recurring pleural effusions.
Tumor Ablation
- Laser Therapy: Uses laser energy to remove or shrink tumors in the airway.
- Radiofrequency Ablation: Uses heat to destroy cancerous tissue in the lungs and airways.
- Bronchoscopic Cryotherapy: Utilizes extremely cold temperatures to destroy abnormal tissues and tumors in the lungs.
Foreign Body Removal
- Flexible Bronchoscopy: Used to safely remove foreign objects that may have been inhaled and become lodged in airways.
