Preparing for Baby

Preparing for Parenthood with Life GuidanceResources® & EAP: Credentialed specialists research the information and services you need to make life easier. As a new parent, you may need support finding daycare, prenatal and newborn care. The specialist can also provide information on pre-school, parenting, adoption, child development, parenting special needs children and more.

Life GuidanceResources® &EAP is available 24/7/365. Call 1-855-327-4479 to receive confidential support.

As a registered Life GuidanceResources® user you can search for proven content and resources on your own. First time users: to register, enter "Baystate" when asked for the Organization Web ID.

Life GuidanceResources® & EAP is available at no cost to all Baystate employees and household members.

Pre-Birth Education Classes: Baystate offers classes for first-time and experienced expectant parents, parents of newborns, grandparents and siblings. For a full listing of classes and for registration information, call Baystate Health Link at 413-794-BABY. If you are enrolled in a BH-HNE medical plan, you save 10% on all course fees.

Expectant Parent Newsletter: Receive Baystate's weekly newsletter for expectant and new parents, regarding important information about your baby's development. Each week is customized to your exact week of pregnancy or baby's age up through their third birthday. Register at any point in your pregnancy by calling 413-794-BABY or subscribe instantly online.

Pregnancy Health Resources through WebMD Health Manager: Receive helpful prenatal health information on how to enjoy a healthy pregnancy. To get started, register for WebMD Health Manager by selecting "Register" in the login window.

Taking Care of Baby

Your Child's Health Record: WebMD Health Manager can help you keep track of your baby's medical history with the Child Health Manager. This tool allows you to keep a complete medical record for your child, stay up to date on age and gender related health topics, and more. To access the Child Health Manager, log on to WebMD Health Manager and select "Family Members" at the top of the screen, then complete the registration process for your child.

Pumping At Work

At Home: Lactation Consultants at Baystate Medical Center are registered nurses who have special training in the field of human lactation. Lactation consultants are available to assist new mothers in overcoming the challenges that may accompany the breastfeeding process. As an employee, you also have access to a variety of breastfeeding retail items including books, pumps, and nursing bras. Breastfeeding classes are available. Call 413-794-5312 for more information.

At Work: Baystate Health's lactation support program is designed to help facilitate breast pumping at work, during your lunch or break time, for up to one year after birth.

Nurse Lactation Consultants will work with you to develop a breastfeeding plan based on your specific needs and work schedule.

Breastfeeding Products: Medela® Symphony Pumps are available for loan at no charge. Breast pump kits, nursing bras, and additional products are available for purchase to at a 10% discount. Lactation Lounges

Baystate has several designated areas for private milk expression at work. Each Lactation Lounge is equipped with the Medela® Symphony electric breast pump.

To access a lactation lounge, contact the Lactation Services department to reserve your pumping time. If you do not see a lactation lounge that is located near you, you can work with your manager to find a private location at your work site.

Post-Birth Education Classes

Returning to Work

Upon the receipt of your Return to Work release from your physician, CareWorks USA will forward the release to your supervisor. Your supervisor will coordinate a return to work date with you. Call CareWorks USA: 1-855-577-6801.
