Medical Student Housing

By the end of April or early May of the second year, rising third year PURCH students move to the Springfield area for their Exploration Phase clerkships in Year 3 and Horizons Phase rotations in Year 4.

Planning For the Move

When you arrange housing in Worcester, we recommend that you negotiate a lease with your landlords/roommates that allows you to move at that time.

You can also consider subletting your room/apartment to incoming nursing or medical students or residents.

If you are considering moving back to Worcester for your final year, try to negotiate flexible lease arrangements for your Springfield housing as well.

Finding Housing

The Baystate campus, like the main campus, does not provide housing for medical students. Finding affordable, safe housing near Baystate Medical Center has not been a problem for the hundreds of medical students who have done their clerkships or electives here over the years.

There are houses and apartments for almost any budget. If you prefer a more bucolic setting, nearby small towns and rural areas in western Massachusetts offer many alternatives.

We provide the resources below as a convenience. Neither Baystate Health nor UMass Chan Medical School endorse these websites.
