Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Message

It is my pleasure to share with you an inside look into our Internal Medicine Residency program and the outstanding education you will experience here.

Friendly Environment

We take great pride in training our residents—this is embodied on our core values of dynamic medical education, leadership, innovation, and quality patient-centered care.

Baystate Medical Center is the flagship of the second-largest hospital system in Massachusetts—a state-of-the-art tertiary care academic medical center with 716 beds. Yet, we continue to maintain an intimate atmosphere. We take care of each other as well as our patients—our program is designed to respect our residents' quality of life.  When our residents are asked why they chose Baystate, they say it's the strong sense of camaraderie, support, and celebration of diversity that most attracted them.

National Recognition

Our institution has received national recognition multiple times, including the recent honor of being named one of the 2017 top three hospitals in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report.

Our residency curriculum is emphasizes patient ownership, bedside and team-based care, evidence-based medicine, high-quality care, and leadership skills. We were selected by the ACGME to participate in their distinguished Educational Innovation Project, which allows us to share our innovations and leadership in graduate medical education reform across the country.

Versatile Program

Our mission is to train the next generation of healthcare leaders to be committed to clinical excellence, education, and intellectual curiosity.

Our versatile program promotes these values by offering the opportunity to elect into categorical or primary care programs as well as other medical career tracks, all of which have been designed to foster individualized career goals and preferences for different training models. We owe our capability to support such an innovative program to our truly dedicated faculty who unfailingly devote their time and enthusiasm for teaching to our residents’ education and professional growth.
